The Super Bowl airs later today, and due to the rise and adoption of new technologies, tracking and communication methods, Super Bowl XLIII is by far the most SOCIAL Super Bowl ever. There are more ways than I can even count right now to follow the big game, related commercials, see what people think, etc. Here are just a few ways to keep up with what's going on today:
Official Super Bowl Website
An obvious starting point, right? Funny thing is, until today, I've gotten all my news from unofficial sources like blogs and folks on Twitter...
http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/43
You can follow the official NFL Super Bowl Twitter account for updates leading up to (and during?) the game. So far only 2,500 or so followers. I would have thought they could have gotten more than that if they had promoted it better.
Another way to use Twitter is to see what others are saying about the game. There are a ton of tracking tools out there but a few options include:
- Twitter Search
- Hashtags - will find anything that people tag as #superbowl
- TwitterBowl2009 - see what Steelers and Cardinals fans are saying in Twitter - side-by-side in real-time.
Super Bowl Commercials
Don't want to wait until the game to watch the commercials? Fast Company has just about all of the $3 million-each commericals, including one from PETA that won't be airing on TV.
MySpace
The NFL has an official Super Bowl account on MySpace that will have the commercials and a game tracker. 87,000+ people have added this account to their friends list. Not bad.
