I just watched a nice segment on SportsCenter that featured NBA Commissioner David Stern addressing some tough issues facing the league. For those of you who didn't see it, here's a quick recap:
About the Tim Donaghy-gambling ref situation: When asked if he thought Donaghy ever purposely influenced the outcome of games, Stern said he'd go with what he'd been told by league investigators, other referees and law enforcement: there is no evidence that Donaghy did this. Stern also said that he doesn't feel too bad about it now, since even the top agencies in the world (CIA, FBI) occasionally have a rogue that they don't know about until after the fact.
About the Isiah Thomas/MSG fiasco: When asked what this shows about the state of the Knicks, Stern implied that they perhaps don't have the best leadership. There were steps that could have been taken to prevent this from happening, according to Stern.
About the Sonics potentially moving to Oklahoma City: Stern said that it was possible the team would move if a deal for a new arena is not put in place (sources say a new arena in Seattle for the Sonics is not likely to happen). When asked how he felt about the team leaving Seattle, Stern paused for a moment, then said, "Bad." He then explained that the Sonics and NBA had a "good marriage" and he'd be sorry to see the team leave.
In other news, the Taco Bell World Series promo, "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" is today. Taco Bell will give away millions of free tacos (one per person) to anyone that stops by from 2pm-5pm today. Afternoon snack, anyone? I'll definitely be there.
